There are many ways to germinate seeds. One of these is the famous eggshell seedlings. Eggshells can be perfect for growing seedlings!

Why grow seedlings in eggshells?

We all, except vegans, have eggs in our fridge. Eggshells are practical to use, the damage to nature is tumbled down because they are organic, biodegradable. The seedlings in eggshells can be planted directly into the soil. Not only are eggshell nutrient-rich for your plants, but it is also rich in calcium. It also lowers soil acidity and fertilizes your plants.

The implementation itself was truly straightforward, so it is, even more, a pity to not use the techniques. All we need is:

  • Some eggs,
  • Egg box,
  • Seeds,
  • A finger for planting
  • Something sharp and spiky (e.g. skewers of skewers)

How to grow seedlings in eggshells?

You break the eggs
If you want it not to be a difficult task, some care must be taken in exactness so that the shell is preserved in the form of the two best vessels.

Clean the eggshells
In any case, if you bought the eggs at a grocery store or have homemade eggs, it may be safer to wash the eggs under warm water. This causes the risks of salmonella, etc. You pierce the bottom of an eggshell with a sharp object like a needle. That the easiest thing to do from the inside out. To help drain water, divide the eggshells back into the egg carton.

Fill the shells with soil
Fill the eggshells with moist soil, slightly little lesser than the top of the shells. If you do not own any soil, or you are considering buying one, we recommend the BioBizz Light-Mix soil mix, which promotes the ultimate basis for sustaining strong growth of seedlings, young plants in cuttings.

Plant in moisten
You can look for any seeds to grow seedlings in eggshells. This way is suitable for herbs, spices, flowers or vegetables. Also, follow the instructions for sowing, as the seeds need to be soaked before planting. If not, you can place it in the middle of the eggshells. Add a very thin layer of soil on it. Moisten again with a few drops of water. You can moisten it with a water spray or just with a teaspoon.

Seed care
Seedlings need some light to grow, so put them in a sunny spot. Water them lightly. Check daily to keep the soil moist, but it must not be wet. Then it's only a matter of time. Depending on which seed you planted, most of the seeds will sprout in less than a week or two.

Transplanting seedlings into the soil
Once the seeds sprout into the reconstructed "pot" (about 5 cm and a few leaves), you can move the pots and plant them in the ground. Seedlings do not have to be removed from the eggshell as they will break down in the composition of the substrates that will provide your plant with calcium.
