Dabbing Weed: New Sensation In The Stoners World

Updated: October 18, 2018

In many societies, it's becoming quite normal to roll a joint or to take a hit from the bong. Dabbing, on the other hand, it's something that has been around for a while, although, only recently, it gained on its popularity. And while dabbing weed might seem like the only scientist would understand, it's actually quite simple.

Explanation Of The Terms Dabs And Dabbing

You might be wondering what are dabs and how are they made. Well, let's put it simply - dabs are cannabis concentrates, made by extracting essential oils (THC and other cannabinoids) of the marijuana plant. This is usually done with a chemical solvent (e.g. butane or CO2). The final result can be anything from wax, shatter, budder, rosin to butane hash oil (the most used one), etc. Common to all of them is that they all have high THC content. It varies from 50% to even 95% THC in some cases.

A quite logical conclusion is then that dabbing weed is a method of consuming those concentrates. This is done by dropping a small amount of concentrated cannabis oil on a hot surface, which creates an inhalable vapor.

Downsides Of Dabbing Weed

The extraction itself is a quite dangerous process. Since it can, in a worse case scenario, result in an explosion because of the combination of poor ventilation and flammable gases. Therefore, it's not recommended to do it at home. And even if you manage to proceed the extraction without any accident, there's no way to guarantee the quality and purity of your end product. Consequently, you might be inhaling hazardous chemicals. For example, if you make dabs at home and the equipment you use contains nasty ingredients such as rust, it will inevitably make its way into your system through the dab that you'll produce. And of course, that's not a good news.

In addition, you might be exposed to cancer-causing toxins while dabbing weed. As an investigation distributed in the American Chemical Society's ACS Omega discovered, concentrates presented to the high warmth typical to dab setups delivered higher levels of cancer-causing and toxic compounds. Also, the long-term effects of dabbing are not yet well-known.

And of course, since dabs are cannabis concentrates and have extremely high THC content, you can easily "overdose." This doesn't mean, that you will end up in a hospital. But it can easily happen that you'll be out for the rest of the day. Needless to say, it's very important you take only a small amount of concentrate. Especially, if this is the first time you'll be dabbing and if you don't utilize weed regularly.

Dabbing Also Has Advantages

Dabbing gets you high (really really high) very quick. As this can be a negative side, it can be a positive side as well. You don't need to waste 15 minutes to prepare and smoke a joint. You just take one hit and you're good to go. Voila, you just saved more than 14 minutes of your time! And thanks to electronic nails, dabbing weed can be very discreet as well.

Many people, especially those with chronic pains, also choose to dab because it offers a massive and prompt alleviation. Meaning, you don't need to sit tight for your high to kick in, since dabs go to work immediately and relieve your pain almost instantly.

On top of that, dabs' flavor is very pleasant since they have a higher level of terpenes. And because you vaporize and don't inhale burning plant parts, the smoke is easier and less harmful for your lungs.

At the end of the day, dabbing is simply just one more approach to utilize cannabis. If you have an opportunity and are curious to try it out, do so. Just be careful to use only a little bit!

A little tip for rookies: If it seems you've taken too little, take even less! Trust me, your experience will be way more pleasant.
