Organic growing of cannabis

Updated: December 5, 2021

Two types of fertilizers are commonly used in the fertilizer industry; mineral and organic. What's the difference between them? The origin of the ingredients plays an important role. What happens in the earth when using nutrients? Do they contribute to the growth of the plant?

The terminology for fertilizers such as organic, natural, inorganic, chemical, synthetic, artificial or manufactured can be a real mess. The good news is that the choice can be reduced to organic or mineral fertilizers.

What does organic farming mean?

Organic generally means anything related to or derived from living organisms. In our industry, organic means simply - grown naturally. That is: grown without chemical or mineral additives or fertilizers. However, when viewed from a chemical point of view, it is ecologically related to how carbon-based molecules act and react in all types of compounds and materials.

When it comes to food, it must be officially labeled organic in accordance with the law and certification and must be produced without the use of hormones, antibiotics (except for medical purposes), synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.

Organic farming also prohibits the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and processes such as radiation.

How to grow organically

Simply put, natural agriculture allows nature to do what nature does best. This means agriculture based on integrated, ecologically balanced farming principles that include soil fertility, crop rotation and natural pests.

If the farmer produces organic produce, they will not use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers on the crops and will avoid using synthetic hormones, antibiotics or other livestock medicines. Organic farmers only use organic feed for their animals and allow them access to the outside.

Why Grow Organically

This is a clear choice. Factory-made chemical fertilizers take nature and life out of the soil instead of adding it. When the earth becomes unusable in the name of a quick fix, these industrial chemicals are washed into the earth's water supplies, killing and causing mutation of wildlife, etc. Residues from these chemicals and pesticides can also end up in products we consume, even though we haven't we used.

Eating natural fruits, vegetables or herbs that grow completely without chemicals or pesticides can boost the animal's immune systems and help them heal.

Agriculture should abandon "solutions" from the laboratory and return to its roots for the benefit of the Earth and all of us who share it.
